Ipswitch License Protection Overview

Ipswitch products include license protection using one of the four methods: non-keyed, license key protected, serial number protected and Event Log Management Protection.  If you own multiple versions of the same product, each version may use a different method.

To determine which method of license protection applies to your product, please view the Protected Products List.

The three protection methods are:

  1. Non-keyed products have an evaluation or trial edition, as well as a full “production” edition.  A trial edition expires after a period of time from its first use, usually 30 days.  To "unlock" the evaluation, you must install the full “production” edition over the evaluation edition.  You do not need to enter a serial number or key to "unlock" the product.
  2. License key protected products are by default evaluations that expire after a period of time, usually 30 days.  You enter a 30-digit license key to unlock or activate the product.  This method is used in some products released between 2004 and 2008.
  3. Serial number protected products do not work without a serial number.  When you register to evaluate, Ipswitch issue a 15-character serial number which you enter to activate the product for a period of time, usually 30 days.  When you purchase a full license for a product, Ipswitch issues a serial number which you enter to permanently activate the product.   This method is used in some products starting in 2008.
  4. Event Log Management Protection uses a "Service Number" to activate
